RAGING ASIAN WOMEN (RAW) TAIKO DRUMMERS

***APPRENTICESHIP AUDITIONS 2017***

We are seeking people who… (these are requirements)

-         identify as East and Southeast Asian, identify as women, and are over 25

-         are committed  to hard work, authentic communication, active listening, self-development and learning

-         can commit to a set schedule of  1 to 2 rehearsals weekly – for the first 6 months, training and rehearsals only on Sundays (4 to 8pm). After the first 6 months, apprentices join members for rehearsals TWICE a week (Weds 6:30-9pm & Sun 6-9pm) – and about 10 performances per year (some of these performances will be during the week day)

-         have social justice and anti-oppression values, interests and awareness

 

We welcome people who… (these are assets)

-         are physically active

-         have drumming,  musical, or  performance experience

-         have been part of a feminist or social activist organizations

-         are available for performances during week days

-         have social activism and advocacy experience

 

What does the process involve?

-         One 3-hour audition (October 22, 2017, 4:30-7:30pm)

-         Call-backs attend a second audition (October 29, 4:30-7:30pm)

-         Apprentice(s) will be selected in November 2017. Apprenticeships will start in December 2017

-         Apprenticeships are approximately a 2-year process/commitment. More details will be shared at the audition!

 

What’s going to happen during the audition?

-         You’ll be given some background info about RAW and basic instruction on Taiko

-         You’ll do warm-ups, drumming drills, creative exercises

-         You will learn a short drumming phrase or exercise and asked to play it in front of people

-         You’ll be part of a group interview and given a take-home questionnaire to complete
