Michelle is a queer Chinese-Canadian who moved to Toronto in 2012 after growing up in Hong Kong, coupled with stints in Vancouver and Montreal along the way. Moving to Toronto has been transformative in her journey to becoming and embracing all parts of who she is. She feels best when her body’s moving and is excited to add drumming to the repertoire of activities that allow her to be active, including hockey, football and being part of the Fuel family. Growing up without access to any visible models of queer women of colour thriving, she did not feel the same sense of possibility that she now feels as she builds community in Toronto. As an apprentice with RAW, Michelle is deeply appreciative of the opportunity to not only further develop this sense of community, but to celebrate and embrace her Chinese heritage in a way that she had not been able to before. Through this, she hopes to give Asian women and youth a greater chance of seeing themselves represented. A caffeine-based life form, her interests include, but are not limited to: Negronis, social justice, Harry Potter, dancing, wit, and random adventuring!
