Weijia

weijiaWeijia Feng was born in Beijing, China and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1997. From an early age, Weijia showed a keen interest in art, reading, writing and music. During her childhood and teenage years, Weijia spent a considerable amount of hours doodling in her sketchbook and creating whimsical characters in extraordinary worlds. After getting her Honours BA in Art and Art History, Weijia packed her bags and went to teach English in Japan with the JET Programme. It was there that she joined her first Taiko group and fell in love with the art of Taiko drumming. After returning to Canada, Weijia continued to cultivate her interest in Taiko by becoming a proud and dedicated apprentice of RAW. She is particularly interested in how Taiko can be used as a pedagogical tool for embodied and transformative learning. Recently, Weijia completed her M.Ed. in Adult Education and Community Development at OISE. She is currently divesting her time wisely between volunteering, art making, poetry writing, daydreaming and finding symbols in the mundane.  Weijia became a member in March of 2017.
