Teiya

Teiya Kasahara 笠原 貞野, Japanese-German-Canadian queer performing artist and creator, is ecstatic to be a part of Raging Asian Women Taiko Drummers. Coming from a background of over 10 years of professional operatic singing across Canada and Europe, she had long desired to find her way home to her Japanese roots by means of taiko. Since 2012, Teiya has been one of RAW’s biggest fans which resulted in a collaboration with them in their 2016 concert Crooked Lines as both singer, arranger, and drummer, and now finally she joins them as an apprentice. Alongside her performing and ongoing musical collaborations, Teiya is an active piano and voice teacher, the founder of the voice and wellness studio The Vocal Dōjō (@thevocaldojo), and is an emerging theatre creator striving to queer the (operatic) art-form where she combines her passions of social justice, opera, movement and music.
